NEW: COVID-19 and ASOS Suspension

Coventry UCU have always placed members welfare, both physically and mentally, above anything else when taking action on your behalf. However Coventry University Leadership is currently focused on trying to maintain ‘business as usual’ whilst requiring teaching staff to undertake significant efforts to move content and delivery online as well as reforming assessments.

Coventry UCU sent the below email to the Senior Leadership Team today:

The UCU Committee has unanimously agreed that we need to put the health and wellbeing of staff and students to the forefront during these challenging times. We do not think it is right at this point in time to put further stress on students and staff. Hence the following:

1.    Immediate suspension of Action Short of Strike (ASOS) boycott of Marking and Assessment which was due to commence on 23/03/20 – 29/04/20.

2.    Immediate suspension of the reballot (CORE/Clear Review).

3.    But the ASOS boycott of the CORE/Clear Review System continues from 23/03/20 – 29/04/20 at which point our current mandate expires.

4.    All physical branch meetings are cancelled for the foreseeable future.

We are thankful to all members who have taken part in the action over the last few months.

We trust that Coventry University Leadership takes the appropriate step of agreeing to meaningful negotiations when the current global health crisis subsides. Ignoring this would be further evidence of Coventry University Leadership attempts to undermine members’ genuine employment concerns.

We promise that when the global health crisis subsides – we will be back . . .

Keep Safe and we will continue to connect with all members. If you have any concerns please contact us via ucu@coventry.ac.uk.

In Solidarity

UCU Committee
